Former chief minister and JD(S) state president H D Kumaraswamy on Thursday fulfilled the last wish of a farmer who committed suicide on Thursday.
H J Shivanna (50) had mentioned in his death note that, “Kumaraswamy is my favourite politician and he must take part in my last rites.” Kumaraswamy, likewise, paid his last respects to the deceased.
Shivanna was a resident of B Hosur village in the taluk. Kumaraswamy, who was touring Belagavi district, flew to Mandya after receiving the message and paid his last respects to the farmer.
Kumaraswamy told reporters that state government should take measures to provide solutions for problems faced by farmers and not provide a mere compensation after they commit suicide. Kumaraswamy said party workers and leaders would take out a padayatra if the state government failed to waive farm loans on the lines of Uttar Pradesh.
